Hello, Substack universe!
We’re Shreya and Kaushik (aka S & K), a travel-obsessed duo who swapped “Netflix and chill” for “passports and toddler meltdowns.”—the very heart of Passport N Peas.
Right after our wedding, we made a pact: one new country every year—because what says romance better than jet lag and airport food? Fast forward to Year 2 of marriage, when we added a third wheel to our travels: our son Iki (short for Ikigai—yes, there’s a story there, and yes, we’ll spill that story soon).
Iki has been our co-pilot since the womb—literally. From waddling through airports while pregnant to his first meltdown in a foreign grocery store, we’ve been globe-trotting as a trio ever since. Before Iki turned 1, he had already ticked off 4 countries. He’s 2.5 now, passport well-worn and has tried food in 8 different places—with varying degrees of enthusiasm and many dramatic "no!"s.
Turns out, travel + parenting = chaos. But it’s a happy kind of chaos—hilarious, humbling, and sometimes totally bananas.
From sprinting through immigration lines with a baby carrier, to begging for “just one plain rice dish with veggie” in foreign lands—our adventures are equal parts laughter, snacks, and “wait, did he just poop during takeoff?!”
So… why are we doing this?
Because the internet needs more than perfect vacation photos and filtered sunsets.
We wanted a place to share the full story—the moments behind the camera. The travel fails, the food finds, the “we’re never doing this again” that somehow turn into “okay, where next?”
We’re writing this for:
🍼 Parents navigating new countries with little ones
🍛 Fellow vegetarians trying to avoid salad fatigue and wanting to try real food abroad
🧳 Curious souls who love real stories and imperfect adventures
Here on Passport and Peas we’ll share travel itineraries that actually worked (and the ones that totally didn’t), toddler-approved meals from around the world, and our ongoing quest to find decent coffee on a red-eye flight.
Questions we get all the time:
“Wait… your kid ate THAT?”
“How do you survive long flights with a toddler?”
“Where do you find vegetarian food in that country?”
“And… are you okay??”
So here we are, putting it all in one place—stories, struggles, wins, and the snack-stuffed diaper bag that holds it all together. Somehow, we always come home with more stamps, more laughs, and at least one “did that really just happen?” story.
So if this sounds like your kind of chaos—the good kind, the snack-filled kind, the kind that reminds you just how wild and wonderful parenting can be on the road— you’re in the right place.
Building a community
We’ll be sharing stories as we go, dropping little postcards from our lives, and even building a community of like-minded wanderers along the way, while we’re still figuring out parenting on the move.
Stick around. There’s lots more coming—and we’d love for you to be part of the journey.
If anything here made you smile, nod, or mutter “same,” you’ve found your people.
Say hi in the comments and tell us where you’re tuning in from—we’re all ears (and usually covered in toddler crumbs).
Here’s to the beautiful mess of travel, parenting, and everything in between. 💛
Let’s make chaos a little happier—together.
